Intensive storytelling workshop for improvisers with Ron Bar-Ad
About this Event

Finding it hard to end a scene? Not sure what your character should do next? Have you lost the plot of your own show? Comedy Lab is here to help, with our brand new Narrative for Improvisers workshop, Story on the Spot. You'll learn what drives a compelling story, how a 4-act structure can apply to anything from a scene to a play to a whole season of television, and how to build your narrative from split-second decisions to a satisfying conclusion. If you've ever felt your beginning, middle, or end were difficult, you'd benefit from this workshop's holistic and simple approach to narrative, story, and plot, and may be surprised how easy it becomes after just a little practice. Hopefully, by the end of this adventure, you'll return home, having changed.

Workshop leader Ron Bar-Ad has been telling stories all his life. He is an experienced improviser who has been performing and teaching narrative long-form improv for the past five years, from running the University of Manchester Comedy Society to heading the Manchester Improv Dojo. He has regular shows with My That Improv, Smashed, Drunk Classics, and Whose Gay Line is It Anyway, and last year he debuted in the Edinburgh fringe, so that this year he can return to conquer it. Before all that, he was a playwrite who had written dozens of plays and seen several performed by theatre companies, and poet published in multiple anthologies by the University of Liverpool Creative Writing Society. Before all that, he was a child, telling tall tales in class and writing short stories in his diary when his real day was too boring. Today, he's ready to share what years of studying narrative structure and practicing it on stage has taught him, and start you on your own journey of storytelling on the spot.

Requirements: Previous improv experience is heavily recommended, this is not an introduction to improv and beginners may struggle. However, there is no upper limit on experience.
