About this Event

Join us for the launch of this timely and compelling book, Stories of Faith, Hope and Love by Charlie Baczyk-Bell —an invitation to reimagine the Church of England with honesty, courage, and hope.

This event will be a 45minute panel discussion, followed by a 15minutes audience Q&A. Refreshments will be available to purchase.

For too long, conversations about the Church of England have been marked by anxiety, decline, and despair. The church is not where we wish it to be—and it is easy to lose hope. Yet this is not the calling of the Gospel.

This new volume gathers fifteen distinctive voices to offer something different: a hopeful, generous, and theologically rich vision for the Church’s future. Bringing together leading progressive thinkers from across the Church of England and beyond, it offers a critical, state-of-the-moment reflection that is both honest about present challenges and alive to the possibilities of renewal.

Contributors include Mark Oakley (on a poetic and prophetic Church), Helen-Ann Hartley (on hopeful endurance), Simon Cuff (on catholicity and wholeness), Rachel Mann (on cherishing trans lives), Luke Larner (on the church and money), Anderson Jeremiah (on racial justice), Carlton Turner (on ministry), Sharon Prentis (on collective wisdom), and Alice Goodman (on being a parson in a mortal church).

The volume also intentionally widens its lens through ‘Views from Without’, with international perspectives from Sandra Fyfe, Gemma Simmonds, and Winnie Varghese, offering reflections that situate the Church of England within a broader global and ecumenical context.

Edited by Charlie Baczyk-Bell—whose own chapter explores the Gospel imperative of hospitality—the collection is framed by a foreword from Rowan Williams and an afterword by the Archbishop of Perth, Kay Goldsworthy.

Join us for the launch of this timely and compelling book—an invitation to reimagine the Church of England with honesty, courage, and hope.
