Stone & Soil: Hypertufa Plant Pot WorkshopHosted by DeSoto State Park & Little River Arts Council
Let’s put on some gloves and get our hands dirty! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to create hypertufa pots—unique, lightweight containers that add a rustic, stone-like look to your home garden. Hypertufa is made from a blend of Portland cement, perlite, peat moss, and water, resulting in a durable planter that looks like concrete but is much lighter and perfect for gardening.
The best way to learn is by doing. During the class, you’ll make your own hypertufa planter while learning the step-by-step process from mixing the materials to shaping your pot. You’ll also decorate or stain a pre-made pot to take home the same day. Your second pot will be molded during class, and you’ll take the mold and instructions home so you can finish curing it properly. You’ll also receive care tips, directions, and creative ideas to help you continue making hypertufa containers on your own. Be prepared to get messy!
