In conversation with Katie FultonSteven Rowley is the author of the bestselling novel The Guncle, the “wise and hilarious” (People) story of a has-been gay sitcom star who steps up to help his niece and nephew in the aftermath of a family loss. A New York Times bestseller, it won the Thurber Prize for American Humor, was an NPR book of the year, and was a finalist for the Goodreads Choice Awards. Rowley’s other books, which have been translated into 20 languages, include Lily and the Octopus, a Washington Post Notable Book; The Editor, an NPR Best Book of the Year; and The Celebrants, a Today Show Read with Jenna book club pick. In The Guncle Abroad, the titular relative returns to shepherd his brother’s children through the pitfalls of love, teenage angst, and a drama-filled wedding in Italy.
