Part of the Yoko Ono Lennon Lunchtime Concert SeriesFrom Clara Schumann to Amy Beach, University of Liverpool Music Department alumna Soraya Verjee will perform a programme of music composed solely by women.
During her Undergraduate degree, Soraya became passionate about championing underrepresented composers following an increased awareness of the male-dominated industry. Now, as a freelance musician, she continues to perform, aiming to challenge gender stereotypes and spotlight the music of women once forgotten.
Post-concert workshop at 2.30pm
The concert will be followed by a talk and workshop led by the Department of Music to spotlight and celebrate women in the music industry, with a particular focus on working as a performer for the 2026 event.
This concert is a joint celebration of International Women’s Day and the University of Liverpool’s Women’s Club, the latter marking their centenary this year.
