The holidays can be heavy with grief, let’s let the weight we held over December rest and have a grief rest stop so we can transition into the new year.
Meet with Adrianna, aka Lady Death Doula, a death doula and grief educator, and James Johnson, a reiki practitioner, both who want to share resources and tools for you to metabolize your grief and help find ways to shed some of the heaviness that comes with grief.
What to bring:
-BYOB (bring your own blanket)
-comfy clothing to rest in
-shoes off so slippers or socks
The Vibe:
Electric fireplace and lit by candlelight for extra coziness
Gentle restorative meditation and movements with reiki
Blanket forts of pillows and blankets
Hot cup of chocolate or tea (for grounding)
What to expect:
Learn about metabolizing your grief through sound, movement, storytelling, and community.
1st hour: build a blanket fort with your fellow grievers and go through the storytelling of your loss; share where you are at in your grief journey and what/who/where you are grieving.
2nd hour: 40 minute guided meditation on releasing grief; James our reiki practitioner moves around the room while people meditate and release sounds or small movements they feel will help the grief release
Last 20 minutes: debrief, ground with tea or hot chocolate
Your facilitators:
James Johnson , Reiki practitioner
James is an Intuitive Energy Practitioner specializing in traditional Reiki. His deep commitment to energy healing modalities provides clients with an inclusive and supportive environment for healing. James enables individuals to explore their own self healing process; fostering personal growth and a clearer sense of identity. Through his sessions clients are encouraged to discover their unique paths to wellbeing and empowerment. James has been a Reiki practitioner for over 20 years. He is excited to be a part of the Inner Arts Collective hive to support and share healing journeys while he continues to study other modalities. Currently he hosts the Inner Arts’ Reiki Share every last Tuesday of the month. It has been profound experiences and new insights supporting people with grief that have inspired him to continue helping people through their grieving process.
Adrianna Prosser, aka Lady Death Doula, Death Doula and Grief Eductor
You might have seen Adrianna on CTV’s The Social as a special guest talking about the Death Positive Movement, or heard her on CBC Radio One across the country talking about grief and bereavement, or in Canadian Business Magazine as a death industry disruptor, or liked one of her TikTok videos sharing her journey as a Death Doula. Adrianna’s brother Andrew died by suicide in 2010 and his death catipulated her life into death work and mental health advocacy: she became a suicide awareness trainer and interventionist. She toured her one-woman show Everything But the Cat… for 10 years about suicide loss and bereavement, utilizing her storytelling background to create inclusive space to open a dialogue around death and dying. In 2019 Adrianna’s coworker Roberta asked if she wanted to go to Disneyland and South Korea to celebrate getting off chemo for stage four breast cancer; Roberta had a year to live and wanted a companion to get through her bucketlist and of course Adrianna said yes and embraced being a Death Doula for her friend. Holding liminal space and being comfortable in the discomfort has led Adrianna to become a hospice volunteer and grief counselor. She is currently in a fast-tracked Bachelor’s of Social Work to become a grief therapist to complement all the training she has done as a death worker. Her practice is anti-oppressive, radically feminist, and magically authentic to ensure she centers her companions where they are at on their care journey.
