About this Event
Artists Statement
A sojourner, a traveller, a waka about, they all mean the same thing. Movement and journeys have always been at the heart of my work. My life has been a constant motion from pillar to post, gathering experiences of loving, losing, and laughing. And now, once again, I am on the move.
This exhibition explores self discovery, Blackness, Africanness, immigration, queerness, community, and the ways these themes stretch across time. In the times we live in, sojourning can be frightening. There is fear and anxiety woven into every departure, yet we continue to journey anyway.
This farewell show invites the viewer into some of my most intimate experiences and feelings. It is a raw revealing of my psyche. Since becoming myself, I have lived joy, pain, and the full spectrum of colours in between. These works speak to community and to the ongoing act of discovering who I am.
I have enjoyed building in this community, and lending my voice to itβs strength. As I bid you adieu, I hope my work stays with you, keeping you company until I return again.
All works will be for sale to raise money for my move and funding my Masters of Fine Arts.
