About this Event
Pysanky are an ancient art made to welcome spring in Ukraine and other Slavic countries for centuries. For thousands of years, pysanky have been an important part of Ukrainian heritage, serving as important symbols of celebration, survival, hope, and cultural remembrance.
In the workshop, you’ll learn how to create your own pysanka to give to a friend – or keep for yourself. No experience is required, and all materials will be provided along with step-by-step instructions.
🐔What to expect:
· Learn about the history of pysanky and their importance in Ukrainian culture.
· Guidance on creating your own, unique pysanka.
· Option to design your own pysanka or follow a provided pattern.
· Fun, relaxing, and creative experience for beginners and seasoned makers alike.
· Leave with your finished ornament and the basics to continue writing pysanky at home
🎫Tickets & Tier Guidance:
Low-Income/Student Ticket ($30): Art is for everyone. I want the workshop to be accessible to folks who may be facing financial constraints, I’ve been there. This ticket covers materials and costs associated with running the workshop and aims to ensure that more people in the community can participate.
Standard Ticket ($50): The regular price for attending and covering workshop costs, while also supporting me as I work to build my art practice in Ottawa (thank you!)
Sponsor Ticket ($100): A lovely way to give to someone else in the community. This ticket covers your participation in the workshop and fully sponsors a spot for another community member. The purchase of a sponsor ticket also comes with a pysanka written by me for you to take home as a thank you for your generosity. If no one claims the sponsorship spot for this workshop, your support will carry forward to provide a sponsored spot to a community member in a future workshop.
Sponsored Spots: To claim a sponsored spot, please DM me on Instagram at @zcherwick.art or email me at [email protected]. No questions asked, first-come, first-served basis.
Eventbrite fees may apply. If you're having trouble purchasing your ticket at the selected tier, please shoot me a DM on Instagram @zcherwick.art and we'll sort you out. The ticketing on Eventbrite is a bit finicky to set up.

📍:
The Grove's new accessible entrance is on the West side of the building - if you are facing the building from Louisa street, that's the right side. Walk down the West side of the building and you will see a fence and likely some red dumpsters with the Tomlison logo on them, that is where you want to enter!
At the door, Buzz 2800 if the door is locked.
Once in the building head down the ramp and follow the hallway until you reach a white roomed atrium with glass doors. Head through the glass doors towards the silver door, which is the elevator. The Grove is located on the second floor.
