In 1982, to promote the overseas release of his album Neil Sedaka: Now, the American pop star Neil Sedaka spent a summer touring Europe -- including a groundbreaking three-week tour of Czechoslovakia, then under Soviet control. Sedaka's rock-and-roll style and lively shows invigorated the democracy movement there, and the singer became an underground icon.Countless Sedaka tribute acts sprung up in the years following his visit -- and although the singer's star was on the wane in the United States, in Czechoslovakia he became something of a national hero.
