A LIVE CONCERT IS LIKE A 'YODELING' MARBLE TRACK
Music offers us beauty, comfort and much more. According to the artist Sjoerd Kooistra, a live concert can be the best way to experience these emotions as intensely as possible. The secret weapon to a live concert is mainly the excitement and time beforehand. The anticipation, the waiting and finally the culmination and the emotional release when a concert finally starts. Now that all concert venues such as Paradiso have been closed this past year, we’ve had to wait for this moment of release a long time. However, Kooistra doesn’t think that this necessarily is a bad thing. “Sometimes you have to wait before you are rewarded: a day, a week, a month or even a year. That makes the joy so much greater when the moment finally arrives.”
Based on this sentiment, Kooistra created a sixties inspired wooden musical marble track, a ‘yodeling track’, for the Small Museum. The musical marble track takes us back to Kooistra’s childhood where he remembers the anticipation of watching the marble slowly rolling down the yellow tracks until it finally arrives at the metal xylophone ladder which makes the vintage “tingle-tangle” sound we all recognize from our own childhood. This slow transition from anticipation to ‘live music’ is a metaphor for a live concert and represents the state of the world today; waiting until the concert can finally begin.

To experience this nostalgic 'yodeling' marble track concert, Kooistra invites visitors of the museum to bring their own marble to put into the yodeling marble track to experience the outdoor mini-concert by themselves.
