This 18 hour intensive is a mini-master's course that provides formal training on teaching methods, learning theory, and lesson planning.
About this Event

This 18 hour intensive provides formal training on teaching methods, learning theory, and lesson planning designed specifically for facilitators of trans-related content!

This course takes some of the essential components of Dr. Green's master's level teaching methods & curriculum design courses and makes them accessible for folks outside of higher education. Course content includes: assessing learners' needs, setting learning objectives, determining scope and sequence, applying learning theory to lesson plan design, climate setting, increasing learner engagement, answering common questions, handling resistance, creating post-session feedback surveys, and more.

Whether you are a facilitator who has never had a chance to engage in formal training about the theory, art, and practice of teaching, or it's been a minute and you are looking for a refresher, this course helps facilitators expand and sharpen their educational tools for teaching trans content to adult participants. People of all gender identities and expressions are welcome, and we strive to create a learning space where we can all show up as our true selves.
Timing
This course will be held over 4 days, meeting from 12 PM - 4:30 PM ET | 9 AM - 1:30 PM PT. Each day includes approximately 50 minutes of break time, including a 30 minute midpoint break.

Format
This course will be facilitated via Zoom, and additional reading and learning materials will be provided via Google Drive. During our time together you can anticipate that a majority of the time will be spent in the large group, which will include guided lecture and group discussion. We will also engage in small group work via breakout rooms, along with some time for individual reflection/exercises.

Registration Survey
To help us better tailor the course and meet the needs of our participants, we require participants to complete a registration survey. Once you have purchased your ticket on Eventbrite, you will receive confirmation from Eventbrite, along with an email from [email protected] - that email will include a link to a registration survey that you will need to complete in order to finalize your attendance.

Accessibility
We recognize that each learner's needs may be different, especially for an interactive learning course, and we invite participants to share accessibility requests on our registration survey.

What we are able to offer for this course:

  • A Moderator for support around technical issues
  • Auto-generated captions and transcripts by Zoom
  • A majority of the time all participants are muted
  • We use noise suppression and minimize auditory overload to the best of our abilities
  • We respect folks needing to have cameras off or limited camera time
  • We respect folk’s need for self-care, including moving around, eating, using fidget toys, taking notes, lying down, etc.
  • 30 days access to recordings of each day, with transcript & autocaption – however we do ask that folks who sign up plan to attend the course, rather than reserving a seat to watch the recording without attending.
  • With enough notice/pending the budget and availability of those we partner with, we can provide ASL Interpretation.

Cost
We strive to balance keeping our courses accessible to folks of different economic situations, while still covering our costs and paying ourselves fairly for our work. When folks who are able to pay more do, it makes it possible for us to keep reduced rate and student/early career seats available. You can pay directly through Eventbrite, or you can contact us ([email protected]) for an invoice to pay by check. Note: We do not pass on Eventbrite’s platform and processing fees to you.
- Full Rate tickets are $650
- Reduced Rate rate tickets are $525,
- Student/Early Career Rate tickets are $415.
- There is a $50 processing fee if requesting CEs.

Continuing Education (CE) Credits
This program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 14 hours of CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification. AASECT CEs are accepted by many mental health and medical credentialing bodies – please check with your board about how AASECT credits can be transferred. (Each board is different, and we would never want to misguide you, so we are unable to advise about whether or not your board will accept AASECT credits.) These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification. There is a $50 CE processing fee for this course. You must register for CEs in order to receive them for this offering. Before you check out, you will be provided with the option to add CEs to your registration. (It is located as an additional option below each of the registration levels.)
