Author Study with Kwame Alexander and Tracey Baptiste & Caroline Starr Rose

Join us when Kwame welcomes Tracey Baptiste AND Caroline Starr Rose to Author Study on Monday, February 3, at 1:00pm ET / 10:00am PT.

This 45-minute virtual livestream session is a unique opportunity to engage with and learn from THREE award-winning, bestselling authors!

Kwame will read from one of his recent books and teach a writing craft mini-lesson. Then he’ll treat students to a conversation with Tracey and Caroline, discussing their writing process and what makes their books unique. The session will end with a LIVE Q&A, when Kwame will answer questions from select attendees in the chat!

Our February 3rd event is recommended for students in upper-elementary through high school grades, but all ages and grade levels are welcome. This event will run 45 minutes (1:00-1:45pm ET / 10:00 - 10:45am PT) and will include an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter.

Author Study with Kwame Alexander is a Big Sea Entertainment initiative.

Kwame Alexander is a poet, educator, publisher, Emmy® Award-winning producer, and #1 New York Times bestselling author of 40 books, including This is the Honey, Why Fathers Cry at Night, An American Story, The Door of No Return, Becoming Muhammad Ali (co-authored with James Patterson), Rebound, which was shortlisted for the prestigious UK Carnegie Medal, and The Undefeated, the National Book Award nominee, Newbery Honor, and Caldecott Medal-winning picture book illustrated by Kadir Nelson.

Kwame is also the Executive Producer, Showrunner, and Writer of the Emmy-award winning series , based on his Newbery-Medal winning novel of the same name, which premiered on Disney+ in April 2023. The series was produced in partnership with LeBron James' SpringHill Company and Big Sea Entertainment, Kwame's production company that is dedicated to creating innovative, highly original children’s and family entertainment. A regular contributor to NPR’s Morning Edition, Kwame is the creator and host of the podcast featuring conversations about love and parenting and loss, with fathers and sons. He regularly shares his passion for literacy, books and the craft of writing around the world at events like the Chautauqua Lecture Series, the Edinburgh Book Festival, Aspen Ideas, and the Global Literacy Symposium in Ghana, where he opened the Barbara E. Alexander Memorial Library and Health Clinic in Ghana.

Tracey Baptiste is a New York Times bestselling author of 26 books for children, including the popular Jumbies series. She writes picture books, middle grade, and young adult, fiction and nonfiction, and has contributed to several anthologies. Tracey has published two novels in 2024 – Moko Magic: Carnival Chaos and Boy 2.0 – and her nonfiction work African Icons: Ten People Who Shaped History is now available in paperback. Caroline Starr Rose is a middle grade and picture book author whose books have received recognition from several organizations, such as ALA-ALSC Notable, Junior Library Guild, ABA New Voices, and Amazon’s Best Books of the Month for Kids.
