About this Event
Skill Up: Look, Learn and Draw from RIBA Collections
Thursday 28th May 2026, 2pm-3.30pm
Spend the afternoon getting to know the our drawings collection as you're introduced to a selection of handpicked objects, drawings and models in the RIBA & V&A Study Rooms, with an opportunity to ask the experts questions; who made the work? What does it communicate? And how was it made?
All before creating your own architectural drawings. Take inspiration from what you've seen whilst trying out different techniques; practise sketching in perspective, testing drawing from observation, adopted different methods mark-making and shading. All of which will feed into the creation of an abstract image mixing styles and view points.
This session will be led by Lauren Alderton from the RIBA Drawings and Archive Collection curation, with drawing activities led by artist Marianne Holm Hansen.

Skill Up Visits
Following the closure of RIBA’s London home, 66 Portland Place, for renovation, our Skill Up programme is returning as Skill Up Visits; a series of curated visits to architecture-related places in London. For teenagers aged 16 to 18, it’s a great opportunity to learn more about architecture and design, explore new institutions, exhibitions and buildings, and think critically and respond creatively within workshop activities and briefs.
