Join us for a heartwarming afternoon celebrating Sin-Tung Chiu’s 50th Anniversary Reunion Recital.
In the mid-1970s, during his tenure as Artist-in-Residence at the Bay View Summer Music Festival and Summer Conservatory of Music, longtime CMC Faculty Sin-Tung Chiu performed and taught violin and viola. On this special day, he will reunite with his former students from those memorable summers and special guests. These students, who were teenagers then, have reconnected after 36 years. Their incredible story of reunion will add a special touch to this musical celebration.
Experience the joy and nostalgia as Sin-Tung and his former students create beautiful music together once again. The recital will feature works by Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Kreisler, and Paganini. The closing piece, Mozart's March, will involve guest musicians from the CMC community and the Nueva String Ensemble from The Nueva School in Hillsborough, CA. There will also be a brief Q&A session before the end of this special recital, celebrating long-term friendships.

About the Artists:
A renowned violinist, Sin-Tung Chiu, began his musical journey in Hong Kong under the guidance of Chung-On Chan. In August 1964, he moved to America to pursue his education at Dartmouth College, Teachers College at Columbia University, The Juilliard School, the Aspen Summer Music Festival, and Meadowmount Summer School of Music. He also studied under Denes Zsigmondy in Germany; at The Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay, Ivan Galamian, Felix Galimir, and Robert Mann and Claus Adam of the Juilliard String Quartet; with Ruggiero Ricci in Victoria, Canada.
Founding violinist of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Sin-Tung has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, and has also toured South America, India, and Israel under the sponsorship of the Department of State. Since 1988, he has been a violin faculty member at Richmond District Branch and taught at various esteemed institutions.
A Boston-based violinist, Danielle Maddon is renowned in New England for her vibrant and versatile performances. She has played at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and Tokyo's Suntory Hall. As concertmaster and soloist for the New England Philharmonic, she regularly performs and premieres new concertos, including Roxanna Panufnik's violin concerto, Abraham, in May 2025. Dani also collaborates with Boston Baroque, Emmanuel Music, and the Boston Pops. She began her violin studies with Sin Tung Chui, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Texas Christian University, and holds a Master's in Violin Performance from Ohio University. Her post-graduate studies led to fellowships at Tanglewood and LA Philharmonic Institutes, performing under renowned conductors.
A violinist from Toledo, OH, Susan Edwards Stephenson holds degrees from the University of Toledo and Ohio University. She studied under Sin-Tung Chiu at the Bay View Summer Conservatory. Susan has taught and performed in the Northern Virginia/Washington, DC area and founded the Suzuki Music School of Greater Toledo. She focuses on Suzuki Violin and Early Childhood Education, running a blog and a YouTube channel, “Beautiful Heart Musical Journey: Babies & Beyond.”
Born in Moscow in 1963, Dmitriy Cogan began his music studies at six and later immigrated to San Francisco. He studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Juilliard School. Cogan has performed extensively across the world and recorded with the Erato label and the Chamber Music Society of Sacramento. He currently resides near San Francisco, performing and teaching piano.
A Catholic priest in Nashville, Dexter Brewer studied with Sin-Tung Chiu at the Bay View Music Festival. He reconnected with Sin-Tung in 2008 and has since hosted him at Christ the King Church in Nashville. Dexter continues to balance his passions for music and his pastoral duties.
Dan Stevens began playing viola in 4th grade and studied under Sin-Tung Chiu at the Bay View Summer Conservatory. He pursued engineering but maintained a professional music career, playing as concertmaster of the Fort Worth Civic Orchestra and Forte’ Strings. Now retired from Lockheed Martin, he enjoys time with his family and music.
Spencer Brewer, a Chattanooga native, began his musical journey on the piano at eight and switched to the cello at ten after being inspired by Pablo Casals. He pursued his studies with a music scholarship at the Cadek Conservatory of Music and earned degrees in cello performance from Florida State University and the University of Houston. Brewer attended the Bayview Summer Conservatory for eight summers, where he met Mr. Chiu, reconnecting years later through his brother Dexter. Currently, Brewer teaches privately and performs in the metro Atlanta area.
