About this Event
Whether the music be classified as “classical,” “folk,” “popular,” or “jazz,” one of the threads that ties music-making to the beating heart is its lyric: the words, the melody—often both. With Simply Lyrical, musicians from diverse musical and geographical backgrounds gather on the Nebula Performance Space stage for an afternoon of heartfelt musical connection. Where else might the music of Shakespeare’s contemporaries, Benjamin Britten, Bob Dylan, Mercedes Sosa, Steeleye Span, and Villa-Lobos find themselves on the same program? Nebula is truly a special space for lyrical music-making.
Featured musicians include special guest guitarist Josue Tacoronte (Cuba/Mexico); Nebula Artists (Music Director Wenwen Du with vocalists Hannah Ernst and Adriana Zaharijevic); and the Vancouver-based quartet of trombonist Jeremy Berkman, harpist Janelle Nadeau, bassist Michael Rush, and percussionist Raphael Geronimo.

Nebula Artist-in-Residence trombonist Jeremy Berkman is co-producer of Simply Lyrical—an effort to bring together musicians he cherishes for an intimate and spirited musical gathering, sharing the repertoire that speaks most deeply to each of them. He is deeply grateful that the Simply Lyrical program has found such a welcoming home on the Nebula stage.
