Under a Minneapolis Moon presents an acceptance and invocation to release the grief surrounding the Minneapolis event, and other incidents of government oppression and violence This ritual invites a release of the suffering and grief that visits us all.
Dance: Eric Larsen
Music: Scott Thompson, cello; Nicola Cappellini, guitar
Movement 1: Arvo Part, Spiegel im Spiegel
Movement 2: Bach, Cello Suite Number 1
Eric Larsen is a performance artist working with ritual and ceremony as movement activism. He is also an Emeritus Research Scientist at the University of California, Davis, with a focus on the science of restoring natural river systems.
Scott Thompson, cello; Nicola Cappellini, guitar
Cello and guitar join together in duo. Distinct musical worlds combine, exploring grief and solace with Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel (mirror in mirror). Playing independently and in duo, intimate musical selections lend their quiet dignity to dance and spoken word.
Nicola Cappellini (guitar) is an educator and musician. A community-oriented mindset and an interest in language, culture and the histories (plural!) led to extended periods of musical activity abroad. Studying first under Pablo Cohen in Ithaca, NY, Nicola spent four years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he studied harmony, counterpoint and regional styles. A masters at the Niccolo’ Paganini conservatory in Genova brought him back to his native Italy. When his project proposal was awarded a prize, he was sent to Leuven, Belgium. There he worked and studied under the mentorship of Raphaella Smits. Whether on stage or alongside students, Nicola integrates musical insights and techniques drawn from both classical and regional styles. A recent arrival to the Bay Area, he is once again finding ways to grow into and adapt to new musical environments.
Sophia Fox and Ava Freeman are poets active in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Spire is located in a residential neighborhood. Building trust and mutual support in our community is of paramount importance! Any disrespect to our neighbors will exclude you to this and future events.
Attention! Parking is very limited on Athens Street. Bike, carpool, walk with friends, use Lyft, Uber, or public transit, and plan accordingly! Parking on Athens makes it hard for the residents—especially our elderly and disabled neighbors—to park near their homes. If you must drive, please park a block down on San Pablo.
