Childhood friends turned all-star act Shadowgrass gained significant success through their instrumental talent and social media presence. However, the expectations that accompanied their large audience were daunting. “We felt a lot of pressure to create something uniquely ours because our followers deserved more than what we had provided,” the band explains. For their sophomore album, *All That Will*, releasing on October 4, 2024, they learned that letting go of self-imposed expectations and focusing on enjoyment was the key to discovering their collective voice.Formed in 2014 at the Grayson County Fiddler's Convention in Elk Creek, VA, Shadowgrass initially consisted of Clay Russell (banjo), Luke Morris (mandolin), and Kyser George (guitar). They chose the name Shadowgrass simply because it sounded “cool.” Now in their twenties, their musical influences have evolved, but they’ve maintained a consistent direction. They recently welcomed fiddle player Madison Morris and bass player Evan Campfield, with Luke and Madison trading lead vocals and harmonies. Their commitment to songwriting adds depth, allowing them to connect with a broader audience.
Having played together for a decade, Shadowgrass shares a unique bond. “We’ve grown up together and act more like siblings than bandmates,” they say. On *All That Will*, they explore themes of anxiety, uncertainty, and self-discovery. Their strong connection has only enhanced their artistic and musical growth.
