About this Event
THE PRACTICE OF SELFUNWINDING
Selfunwinding is a simple yet profound experiential process that invites the body’s innate intelligence to re-organize itself through spontaneous, integrative movement.
In this one-day workshop, Dr. Bob Kohl (Dae Do Soen-sa)—osteopathic physician, multi-modal bodyworker, yoga teacher, and Zen teacher in the Furnace Mountain Sangha—will guide participants through the Selfunwinding process as it has evolved through decades of clinical practice, personal inquiry, and contemplative study.
Rather than imposing techniques, corrections, or prescribed movements, Selfunwinding creates the conditions for something more fundamental and immediate: the body remembering how to move, sense, and organize itself as a living whole.
Participants are invited to slow down, turn attention inward, and allow movement to emerge organically—connecting sensation, emotion, memory, and awareness in real time.
This is not a performance practice, exercise class, or therapy session. It is an exploration of how healing happens when the body is allowed to lead.
WHAT WE WILL EXPLORE
Throughout the day, we will:
- Experience guided Selfunwinding sessions in a safe, supportive group setting
- Explore spontaneous movement arising from sensation, curiosity, and awareness
- Learn how habitual tension patterns can soften when the nervous system feels supported
- Discover how movement, feeling, and perception naturally integrate when effort is reduced
- Develop greater trust in the body’s inherent capacity for self-organization and healing
Previous participants have reported increased ease, clarity, emotional release, and a renewed sense of embodiment. Others simply experience a deepening relationship with their own bodily intelligence. Each person’s experience is unique, and nothing is forced.
