Join Columbia College Chicago’s Talent Management Class for a special screening and conversation with 7x Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Brian Schodorf, Columbia College Chicago alumnus (’06, ’08). This event will explore the theme Truth, Politics, and Ethics in Documentary Filmmaking, offering students, alumni, and the public an inside look at the creative and ethical challenges of telling politically charged stories in today’s media landscape. Schodorf will share insights from his career as an award-winning filmmaker and discuss the responsibility of documentary storytellers when navigating truth, bias, perspective, and public impact. The program includes a screening followed by a keynote conversation and audience Q&A. The event will take place at Ferguson Memorial Theater, 600 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago. Doors open at 4:00 PM, screening begins at 4:25 PM, and the conversation and Q&A begin at 6:15 PM. RSVP is required, and all guests must register in advance.
FILMMAKER BIO: Brian Schodorf is a Chicago-based Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, producer, director, and writer, and the founder of Schodorf Media. A graduate of Columbia College Chicago, where he earned both his undergraduate degree in Television Production and a master’s degree in Media Management, Schodorf has built a career around cinematic, story-driven content that blends journalistic depth with emotional impact. His impact-driven documentaries have garnered national attention for their ability to tackle complex socioeconomic issues through a deeply relatable and human lens.
Over the course of his career, Schodorf has earned 7 Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards, 22 Emmy nominations, and multiple National Telly Awards. His work spans documentary film, television, political media, tourism campaigns, and branded content. His documentary projects include Poverty in Chicago, Greensburg, The Wayman Tisdale Story, and the ongoing Why Trump? docuseries, which examines the social, political, and cultural fractures shaping modern America. In 2020, his film Chicago at the Crossroad earned five Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards.
In addition to his documentary work, Schodorf has produced content for major clients and platforms including ESPN, NBA-TV, Discovery, PBS, Peacock, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Tubi, Brand USA, Choose Chicago, Discover Puerto Rico, and ASPIRE TV. Known for his sharp storytelling instincts and visually compelling style, Schodorf continues to create films and media that explore identity, place, politics, and the American experience.
