Scratch Cafe is Bristol’s Turntablist Community get together. We’re hosting a scratch jam for all levels and ages on Wednesday 11th November (6-10pm) at Lost Horizon in Bristol. The focus of this event is on learning, community and DJ culture. Anyone can take part in the scratch jam. You just step up to the decks and freestyle. It’s an inclusive and supportive space so, even if you’re totally new to scratching, get up and do your thing!
It’s a great opportunity to network with other DJs and learn from some former DMC and other global competition winners. There will be scratch workshops and short DJ sets to break up the evening.
Periodically, the Scratch Cafe live band (drums, bass and guitar) will play intrumentals for the DJs to scratch over.
Resident B-Boy group, Bristol Breaking Sessions, will also be there, showing off their skills.
The Collector Cave Record Shop will be hosting an open decks in 'The Void' (the outdoor area that is under cover) so make sure you get in touch with them if you'd like a slot - these go fast so get in there fast! Great way to show off your skills, if you're new to the scene.
If you have one, bring down a scratch record you are used to using. Don't worry, if not - we have plenty.
If you want to brush up on your skills ahead of the session, why not check out Mr. Big Mouth’s scratch technique shorts on Tik Tok @mrbigmoutbeatsdj
