Embark on a colorful adventure with our Ngatu (tapa cloth) workshop designed especially for kids! Dive into the enchanting world of Tongan art as we explore the unique patterns and stories behind Ngatu. In this engaging and hands-on session, children will have the opportunity to express their creativity while learning about this traditional craft.
Siniva will guide young artists through the fascinating process of painting Ngatu using child-friendly materials such as acrylic paints, Indian ink, and playful wooden blocks. Discover the joy of combining colors and patterns to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that reflects both cultural heritage and individual imagination.
Process
1) Teach children about the Ngatu (tapa cloth) and patterns and meanings (I made a workbook happy to share this too).
2) Using colours white and yellow ochre - teach how to paint the background.
3) Using blocks rub Burnt Sienna over.
4) Design and paint Childs pattern on top of painting.
