About this Event
Learn how to loosen up and go abstract with today's offering of drawing tools. You'll discover how to create gestural marks that have rhythm and movement—making your art feel alive, energetic, and dynamic.
In This Workshop:
Drawing is a powerful and wonderful language, capable of expressing things not easily conveyed in other mediums: communicating the intangible and invisible. It is one of the most accessible and portable activities you can undertake.
The Modernism movement expanded the definition of what drawing can be and do; freeing it from being equated to only realistic renderings.
In this workshop, we will produce a broad range of large-scale expressive and gestural drawings that are personal and meaningful. We will explore and experiment with materials beyond the familiar pencil and eraser duo. We will learn to loosen up, trust ourselves, and expand on what we know we can do to create rich, satisfying abstract drawings.
What you'll learn:
- how to get loose
- different moods and expressions of mark making
- about new drawing materials
- creating gestural marks that are unique to you
- what is rhythm and cadence
- how to add movement and excitement to your art
Students will walk away with several abstract studies on large-format paper that are born from exercises and prompts led by the instructor. You'll have the know-how for making and adding these type of marks and movement into your own paintings at home.
