We’re celebrating Perth Pride this year with a Sapphic Serenade!Escape into an evening of stunning music by sapphic composers, performed by talented Perth-based musicians.
Date: Wednesday 20th November
Time: Twilight market from 5pm, doors open at 7pm
Where: Perth City Farm, East Perth
Whether you’re a classical music lover or seeking a serene date night, this concert promises to be an enchanting evening. Start off with a twilight market featuring local queer-owned businesses and stay for a concert showcasing music by sapphic composers for the voice and a string quartet.
While Britten, Bernstein, and Tchaikovsky were excellent composers, we want to give Perth audiences the chance to hear a Pride Concert with a difference. We’ll experience music by composers from across the centuries including the entrancing medieval German mystic, poet, artist, composer, healer, scientist, and nun Hildegard von Bingen; to legendary suffragette Ethel Smyth; to acclaimed contemporary New York composer, violinist, and educator Jessie Montgomery, whose profoundly felt works have been described as “turbulent, wildly colorful and exploding with life” (The Washington Post). This concert will feature works from Australian composers Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO, Holly Harrison and Belinda Gehlert. PLUS a brand new commissioned work from emerging WA composer Rose Russell.
Let us serenade you this Pride Month
Performers include soprano Hannah Lee Tungate, solo cellist Sacha Yolande McCulloch and our string quartet - Hannah Brockway, Julia Nicholls, Ruth Klein-Cook, and Krista Low.
Sliding Scale Ticket Prices
We are offering tickets to Sapphic Serenade on a sliding scale basis – we don’t want finances to be a barrier if you would like to attend our concert. Art music is for everyone, and all are welcome at this and all of our events.
Suggested: Standard - $45 Concession - $30 Student - $15
Consider paying more on the scale if you're able to
Consider paying less on the scale if you need to
This scale is intended to be a rough map, inviting us all to take inventory of our financial resources and look deeper at our levels of privilege. This is especially important to Tenth Muse given the historical role classical music has played in delineating class and opportunity, broadly excluding women and marginalised people from the industry. Please don’t stress about deciding your ticket price – choose what feels right.
