Day of My Death Documentary Screening
Join us in person for an exclusive screening of Day of My Death with the incredible Ravyn Wngz at the Black Lives Matter Wildseed Center.
The 40 min personal documentary follows Dayle to her ancestral lands of South Africa to live under the strict and sometimes brutal tutelage of elder Sangomas (female traditional shamanic practitioners) who put her through the ancient rites of passage of her people. Shot on her iphone, viewers witness Dayle’s inspiring and emotional journey through the pain of initiation, transcending past demons and rewriting her own story. Day of my Death illustrates the power of ancestral re-connection and challenges viewers to consider the demands of their own ancestry in times of trouble.

Dayle McLeod (Makhosi Nyoga Yomfula) is a decolonial dream weaver using performance, Storytelling, Poety, Music & film to inspire visions of what liberation could look like.
As an actor you've seen her on 'The Expanse', 'Star Trek' & the upcoming 'Cry Wolf' on FX.
Her folk music albums 'In Bloom' and 'Snakes' have been featured in a number of film and television productions including CTV's 'Kims Convenience' Mary Harron's film; 'Charlie Says' and Sam Coyle's award winning web series 'Avocado Toast'. Her memoir 'The Big Dream; My Terrifyingly Beautiful Shamanic Initiation into the Arts' tells the story of her calling illness and how she came to shamanic medicine.
Day of my Death is her first documentary short that followed her initiation as a sangoma in South Africa, commissioned by the Toronto Arts Council and Canada Council for the Arts.
Ravyn Wngz (Mohawk, lives and works in Toronto) "The Black Widow of Burlesque" is a Tanzanian, Bermudian, Mohawk, 2Spirit, Queer and Transcendent empowerment storyteller. Ravyn is an abolitionist and co-founder of ILL NANA/DiverseCity Dance Company.
She is a co-founder of Black Lives Matter Canada, A co-founder of the Wildseed Centre for Arts & Activism, A Canadian Best Selling Author, Top 25 Women of Influence in Canada recipient of 2021, Ravyn is committed to eradicating all forms of anti-Black racism, settler colonialism systems of oppression while nurturing Black and Indigenous healing in communities
