San Diego iNaturalist Bioblitz

Get ready to explore the wild side of San Diego in person. This fun, hands-on event is all about spotting and sharing local nature using the iNaturalist app. Whether you’re a newbie or a nature pro, come connect with fellow enthusiasts, learn cool ID tips, and help document the amazing biodiversity around us. Bring your curiosity, your phone, and your love for the outdoors.

I recommend you download the iNaturalist app and make an account beforehand, but it's fine to do wait until the event. We'll be able to assist you if you have any trouble. Also, if you're into birds, I recommend you download the Merlin app so you can identify birds by their sound (although this is also possible on iNaturalist, which we'll see). And if you're really into wildlife apps, here are a few more I recommend: Seek by iNaturalist, eBird, BirdNET. All apps are free.

9:15-9:30 Introductions

9:30-10:00 iNaturalist app tutorial and demonstration

10:00-11:30 Venture into the surrounding area and document wildlife. The Florida Canyon trail is nearby and has a great variety of wildlife.

11:30-12:00 Return to where we started and wrap up. Show us what you identified and ask any questions you have about the app.

There should be plenty of parking nearby. There are also restrooms (although they can be kind of dirty). If you wanted to bring you dogs, you can. You can even have them off-leash while in the dog park.
