Workshop: Safeguarding Adults - Training for Therapists
Description:
Using anonymised scenarios, we will look at the practical implications of recent policy and legislative changes.
We will explore applying thresholds and analysis of risks, understanding mental health and associated risks, (including suicidality, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, drug and alcohol dependency)
We will also cover liaising with key statutory agencies, using trauma informed practice, offering ongoing support and guidance.
Aims & Objectives:
To enable practitioners/therapists to understand their role in respect of safeguarding their clients. Understanding thresholds for escalation, onward referral, consent and confidentiality
Learning Outcomes:
To fully understand the thresholds for escalation of safeguarding and to understand the therpists role in keeping clients and their families safe.
Facilitator:
Dr. Karen Miller. BSc(Hons) Psychology. I have worked as a Clinical Psychologist for more than 30 years in frontline safeguarding practice as a Head of Safeguarding working with CAMHS and in mental health. Between 2022 and 2024 I worked at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Trust as a Head of Safeguarding. I have a specialist interest in trauma and neurodiversity. I am an accredited expert witness within courts.

Car - the venue has ample on-site parking.
Train – a 20-minute taxi journey from Bristol Temple Meads train station and 25 minutes from Bristol Parkway train station
Bus – the X1 and X4 Badgerline busses connect Anchor Road, Bristol with the local village of Pill – it is a 15-minute walk from the bus stop to Penny Brohn Centre. They take between 45 min to an hour and operate every 20 minutes but may not operate every day or throughout the day – please check before setting off. Other busses connect the city centre and Temple Meads station with Anchor Road.
