P&T Knitwear is pleased to welcome Ross Barkan to celebrate and discuss his new book ; a stark and unsettling portrait of success that revives the long-established intersection between ambition and corruption in the pursuit of the American dream.


Ross will be joined in conversation by, Shadi Hamid author of . Along with a discussion and audience Q&A, Ross will also sign copies of his book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ross Barkan is the author of six books, including the novels Glass Century and Colossus. He's a columnist for New York Magazine and the editor-in-chief of The Metropolitan Review, a books and culture review publication.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR
Shadi Hamid is a columnist at The Washington Post, where he focuses on culture, religion, and foreign policy. He is also a senior fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. From 2023 to 2024, he was a member of the Post's Editorial Board. Previously, he was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a contributing writer at The Atlantic. Hamid is the author of several books, including most recently The Case For American Power (Simon & Schuster) and The Problem of Democracy (Oxford). His book Islamic Exceptionalism: How the Struggle Over Islam is Reshaping the World was shortlisted for the 2017 Lionel Gelber Prize for best book on foreign affairs.

In 2019, Hamid was named one of the world’s top 50 thinkers by Prospect magazine. He is also the co-founder of Wisdom of Crowds, a podcast, newsletter, and debate platform. Hamid received his B.S. and M.A. from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and his Ph.D. in political science from Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
