🌸 Mr. Hat Presents an Afternoon with Ronobir Lahiri
Sunday, May 31st | Chapel of The Flowers, Berkeley Doors: 1:00 PM | Show: 2:00 PM | 21+ | Sponsored by CBCB, Berkeley's most beloved dispensary
On Sunday, May 31st, the Chapel of The Flowers in Berkeley welcomes classical sitar master, viral sensation Ronobir Lahiri for an intimate, one-of-a-kind concert experience unlike anything you've experienced.
Ronobir Lahiri has gone viral for his brilliant, genre-bending sitar covers of throwback hip-hop classics. A Calcutta-trained classical sitarist based in Los Angeles, Lahiri seamlessly blends the complex strings of ancient Indian ragas with iconic 90s and 2000s hip-hop beats, often pairing the instrumentation with his surprisingly soulful vocals. His hip-hop reinterpretations have caught the ears of the Wu-Tang Clan, Lil Nas X, Ziggy Marley, and Katy Perry, among other notables, earning him collaborations and kudos from across the musical spectrum.
But Ronobir's artistry runs even deeper than the clips you've seen on your feed. Steeped in the tradition of Hindustani classical music and profoundly shaped by the improvisational spirit of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, Ronobir approaches the sitar the way the Dead approached a live show: as a living, breathing conversation between musician and audience, full of unexpected turns, meditative depths, and pure sonic joy.
This is the kind of concert the Chapel of The Flowers was built for, and we mean that literally. The 101 year-old storybook chapel's exceptional acoustics make it one of the Bay Area's most special settings for live music, wrapping every note in a warmth and resonance that you simply have to hear to believe. The sitar was made for a room like this.
Settle into the vaulted, whimsical & welcoming chapel space (featuring a flower friendly outdoor patio, naturally) with food and beverages available to keep the good vibes flowing all afternoon. The doors open at 1:00 PM, the music starts at 2:00 PM, and the only agenda is to relax and enjoy a stunning performance in an unbelievable urban oasis. The show will end around 4:20 pm or so, and we will celebrate accordingly on the patio in Chapel of The Flowers fine fashion.
And if you think you recognize Ronobir from somewhere else, you might. Beyond his music, he's an accomplished actor with a filmography that spans decades, including appearances in You've Got Mail, Ted 2, Stuart Little 2, Grey's Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Two and a Half Men, and the Emmy-winning drama This Is Us.
This is a Mr. Hat Presents peak live music experience, sponsored by CBCB. Limited reserved seats and GA tickets are available now at MRHATPRESENTS.com.
This is a 21+ event. Doors at 1 PM, show 2 PM. Food & beverages available, ADA accessible. Chapel of The Flowers, 3049 Adeline St., Berkeley, just across the street from Ashby Bart Station.
