To mark Romani Resistance Day, Delaine Le Bas will be in conservation with Juice Vamosi, co-founder of the UK-based KaskoSan Roma Charity.
About this Event

Taking place in our Gallery 3 alongside Delaine's mural we'll be hosting a in conversation with Delaine Le Bas and Juice Vamosi.

Following on from the talk Romany Gypsy performance artist and poet Gemma Lees will perform poetry from her book '1000 years' and lead creative writing and poetry workshops inspired by Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showmen, and Boaters (GTRSB) writers.

The talk and Gemma's poetry will take place in Gallery 3 plus a creative workshop with Gemma in the 'Performance space' of Delaine Le Bas exhibition.

KaskoSan Charity will also be performing music and storytelling around Romani resistance narratives between 2:30-3:30pm. A full line up of the day is listed below.

About Delaine

Delaine Le Bas(1965 Worthing, UK) studied at St. Martin's School of Art, London. A practising artist since 1988, she works with fabrics, film, performance, painting, photography and sculpture, creating large-scale immersive installations. She was one of sixteen artists who formed ‘Paradise Lost’ at the First Roma Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, 2007. She worked with her late husband, artist Damian Le Bas (1963-2017), on the installations ‘Safe European Home?’ and ‘Frontier De Luxe’. In 2017, they collaborated on the stage designs, costumes and texts for ‘Roma Armee’, Maxim Gorki Theatre, Berlin.


About Juice

Juice Vamosi has more than 30 years of history of working and supporting the Roma community. First in his native Hungary, then in Germany and throughout Eastern Europe. He has been working, studying and living in the U.K. permanently since 2012.

He has also been an adviser on the Digital Agenda of Europe to Neelie Kroes, former vice president of the European Commission for five years. He also advised two past presidents of the World Bank on Roma inclusion.


About Gemma

Gemma Lees is a Romany Gypsy, disabled and autistic performance artist, poet, facilitator and journalist. Her practise focuses on protest, advocacy and telling the stories that no one else is. She’s a passionate advocate for GTRSB education and inclusion, having written many educational guides, running workshops for all ages and abilities teaching traditional crafts and working every year to promote and celebrate GRT History Month.

Info: KaskoSan, founded by East European Roma living in the UK, works with the East European Roma community both digitally and offline since 2009. In collaboration with dedicated partners, we produce cultural content and consultancy. Our films, dramas, art performances and Romani language and cultural workshops aim to inspire critical thinking in terms of Roma inclusion and develop ways to maximize engagement.
