Join us to experience the storytelling power of multi-instrumentalist/composer Emily Pinkerton with “Enduring Stories: ghosts, M**der, & lost voices of the Appalachians and Catskills” (Spring 2025). In “Ephemera Ballads” - another NYSCA funded new work - Emily Pinkerton shares stories of two women whose important messages about class, gender and bodily autonomy resonate today, as well as her earlier work “Rounder Songs.” Emily will also be playing solo banjo pieces.
As part of this program, Flower City Arts offers two special printmaking workshops. Emily’s new piece, "Ephemera Ballads" draws inspiration from song texts of folk poets from the 19th century. The workshops teach participants about 19th century letterpress techniques, giving a hands-on experience with the moveable type, inks and machines that New York printers used to mass produce the song texts that inspired Emily in her new work.
Coffee Connection will be sellling coffee and baked goods during intermission.
The Coffee Connection creates jobs and trains women for sustainable employment as a not-for-profit business selling fair trade, organically-grown, and sustainably-farmed coffee to retail and wholesale customers.
