Every Scenic Byway corridor is unique.
You want both locals and visitors to be out exploring and enjoying your Byway for years, even decades, to come. It doesn't happen by magic, though.
What goes into that ongoing protection and maintenance?
This session will explore several topics which impact the quality of roadway infrastructure, the roadside environment, and the visitor experience along scenic corridors.
These topics are as wide-ranging as tips for maintaining roadside vegetation, insights into hazard warning systems, and a discussion about what to do when a construction project is announced for your Scenic Byway.
Our presenter is Mike McClanahan, and a Transportation Manager with the TDOT Highway Beautification Office since 2016. He received the Governor’s Excellence in Service Award in 2021.
Mike manages the Department’s environmental outreach programs, including litter pickup and prevention education programs, landscaping and pollinator habitat programs, and scenic roadways. Previously, he served as City Manager for both Kingston Springs, TN and Clifton, TN.
He holds a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University and is a TN Certified Economic Developer and Certified Municipal Finance Officer. Mike also serves as a volunteer fireman for the Williamson County Rescue Squad, and lives with his wife, Kaitlyn, and two children.
