ABOUT:
Rhino and the Ranters have built a reputation for high octane and dangerous performances. They have proved time and again to be a ferocious festival band delivering raucous sets of original compositions. The Ranters have consolidated their position as one of the country’s highly regarded live acts with shows supporting The Wonder Stuff, The Proclaimers, The Twang and Urban Voodoo Machine to name but a few.
Poet and Songwriter R J Webb (voice, guitar, banjo, harmonica) brought together some of Birmingham’s finest musicians: Mandolin virtuoso Loz Kingsley and drums and percussionist Pete Hammond (formerly of the Au Pairs), guitarist Andy Pell and Richard March (ex Pop will Eat Itself and Bentley Rhythm Ace) on stand up bass to complete the Ranters.
Webb’s songwriting skills can be heard on the new Rhino and the Ranters 4-track EP Half Quixote and on the album The Hanging Room (2010). The band have been busy writing and arranging new material with a full length album scheduled later in the year. Webb’s energetic and charismatic performances are complemented perfectly by Loz’s inventive and melodic playing and one of the most experienced rhythm sections in town. From 50s style ballads, through swampy blues to pumped up rockers, Rhino and the Ranters are guaranteed to get the crowd moving and the temperature rising.
