Why Rest Fest?

In our work, teaching artists hold so much. Challenging realities of our students are often expressed through their creative work, and we may deal with secondary or vicarious trauma through our up-close witnessing of their experiences. And let's face it, the long commutes and unpredictable schedules can take their toll towards the end of the season. On top of all of that, local and international political turmoil has increased on a daily basis, resulting in chronic stress on our psyches, nervous systems, and hearts. In order to sustain our well-being, we MUST take care of our whole selves.

About the faciliators:

Lisa Green

Lisa Green is a performer, arts administrator, and movement educator based in New York City. With over 20 years of experience with the public school system, working in in-school and out-of-school programs, Lisa has worked closely with teachers, collaborating to integrate arts and social justice pedagogy into the curriculum. She also has extensive experience as a training facilitator, including conducting workshops on literacy through arts, as well as topics that focus on social justice, wellness, youth, and community development. Lisa earned her Bachelor of Arts degree as a Child & Youth Counselor, working with at-risk children and their families. An accomplished performing artist, she is skilled in several dance forms and has performed with many dance companies locally and internationally. The skills she has acquired in the counseling field have informed her work as a dance educator and performing artist, which led her to develop and implement dance programming for children focusing on their social and emotional growth through movement. To add to her credits, Lisa also specializes in many fitness and healing modalities, including certification in Holistic Health Counseling (Ayurveda), Yoga, Pilates, and Zumba Instruction.

Dale Novella Anderson-Lee

Dale Novella Anderson-Lee is a singer/songwriter, yogi and arts educator, a graduate of the University of South Carolina’s Media Arts program and US Marine Corps Veteran. Since completing the Teaching Artist Project in 2016, she has taught across NYC, using music, poetry, and digital media to empower students. She now serves as Community-Word Project’s Director of Teaching Artist Project, supporting arts education for social change.
