About this Event
The ‘Resilience Though Creativity’ workshop will give people the opportunity to explore some of their feelings/emotions through modelling with air drying clay. They will be encouraged to make small scale models (known as embodiments*) of a particular feeling. After a brief introduction, participants will be encouraged to develop their ideas, starting by using pencil and paper to jot down words, doodles or plans for their embodiments before modelling them in clay. The work made can then be taken away and, once dried, they can be painted with acrylic based paint. The clay we will be using will need 24 hours to complete dry before you begin painting. Please bring a container to take your work home in, but otherwise all materials will be provided.
*Embodiment refers to a tangible, physical or concrete expression of an idea, a quality or concept - giving physical form to something abstract.

Terence Wilde is a visual artist who uses creativity as part of his resilience, working from the perspective of an adult survivor and drawing directly from his lived experience of PTSD. His daily art practice not only gives joy but also provides a therapeutic platform in which to process and regulate spiritual and emotional aspects of his existence. Terence uses clay work particularly, to give shape and form to emotions and feelings. His ceramic piece Spindle Frame features amongst the works in ‘The Weight of Being’. It explores body dysmorphia, looking at how the expectations of appearance and control over body create pressure from a gay man’s perspective. Spindle Frame reveals the way that masculine identity gets entangled with physical presentation, and the vulnerability when bodies don't conform to expected ideals.
