About this Event
A talk on why local renewable energy is the best hope we have for taking control of our bills, disarming the fossil fuel industry and delivering climate justice, by Howard Johns, founder of POP Energy.
POP energy is developing a new edge based energy company - that is, a company focused on where power is used, like in your home. Its aim is to turn all of our homes into flexible power stations using solar, batteries and heat pumps.
Howard has been working on climate and energy issues for three decades. He is author of “Energy Revolution”, and is an energy engineer, entrepreneur, business leader and activist. Moving on from saying no to the problems, he founded Southern Solar, a national solar energy company, and Ovesco, a locally owned renewable energy cooperative. At the same time he chaired the trade body representing the UK solar industry, finding himself once again a campaigner around energy policy in the process. He went from adviser to a Labour minister to being in conflict with a Conservative one and ended up involved with taking the Conswervative Government to the high court over the Feed-in Tariff.
Howard has developed and managed a huge fleet of large-scale renewable energy projects for a UK stock market listed investment fund, but is convinced that the future of energy looks different and founded POP to create an example of this.
