About this Event
REN Culture Cafe: Marcus Paragpuri
Join REN network member Marcus Paragpuri (Student Support Projects Officer, CAL), for the following event: “Alongside my role at the University, I’m a mixed heritage Indian and English theatre maker and currently one of the Birmingham Rep’s Foundry Artists for the year. As part of Foundry, I'm writing a play set in an Indian restaurant in Birmingham in the late 1970s, drawing the parallels between how South Asian communities came together to resist fascism and racism in the form of the National Front and how we today can come together to face the same challenges again in a new form.
I’ll be sharing some of the research I’ve done for the play and some of my family history. As someone who grew up around Slough and West London, I’d love to hear from people with lived experience of growing up in Birmingham and its surroundings at the time as I want to represent the time and setting of the play authentically and honestly.”
Photos and/or videos may be taken during our events. If you prefer not to appear in any images or recordings, please let an event organiser know when you arrive.
