The Institute of Microbiology & Infection (University of Birmingham) will hold a special symposium in honour of the late Emeritus Professor Jeff Cole on Tuesday 14th July 2026 from 0930 to 1600 hours in the School of Biosciences.
There will be a series of scientific talks during the morning session, delivered by Professor David Richardson (UEA); Professor Sheela Jayaraman (University of Nottingham); Professor Chris Tang (University of Oxford); and Professor Ian Henderson (University of Queensland) (also session chair).
At 1300 hours, Professor Kevin Foster (University of Oxford) will deliver the inaugural Jeff Cole Memorial Lecture, hosted by Professor Nick Loman.
The afternoon session will include contributions from a number of Jeff’s former PhD students including Professor Gavin Thomas, Dr Ron Jackson, Dr Stephanie Hopley, Dr Helen Crooke, Dr Ian Cadby, and Professor Nigel Savery. They will share their experiences of working with Jeff and how this may have shaped their careers.
The day will conclude with an opportunity for people to socialise.
