Reel Access Series uses film and dialogue to spark conversations on disability, inclusion, identity, and community impact.
About this Event

What happens when a community comes together to watch, reflect, and talk about inclusion? The Reel Access series brings people together through film screenings and guided discussion to explore disability, identity, access, and social equity in real and honest ways.

Each event pairs a curated film with facilitated conversation — creating a welcoming space to learn, connect, and engage with stories that don't always make it to the mainstream.

What's included:

  • Film screening centering disability experience or advocacy
  • Facilitated post-screening discussion
  • Open community dialogue
  • Resource connections and referrals
  • Fully accessible environment — accommodations available upon request

The Films:

July 25 I Am Sam (2001)
A drama about a father with an intellectual disability who is raising his young daughter with deep love and commitment. The film explores family, care, and the challenges that can arise when personal lives intersect with public systems.

August 1 Crip Camp (2020): A documentary about a summer camp for disabled teens and the powerful movement that grew from it.

August 8 Forrest Gump (1994): A sweeping drama that follows one man’s life through decades of change, challenge, and connection.

August 15 Out of My Mind (2024): A story about a young girl with cerebral palsy finding her voice and claiming her place.

August 22 Rain Man (1988): A road-trip drama about two brothers whose relationship changes as they come to know each other more deeply.

August 29 CODA (2021): A coming-of-age film about a hearing daughter in a Deaf family balancing love, responsibility, and her future.

This event is open to everyone — individuals with disabilities and their families, educators, social workers, students, advocates, and curious community members.
