About this Event

Complex wheelchair seating showcases the clinical expertise of OTs and PTs. This session focuses on applying foundational seating principles to support confident prescription, optimised postural alignment, and sustainable functional and pressure care outcomes.

This intermediate-level workshop uses real-world case discussions to demonstrate clinical reasoning in achieving outcomes that meet client goals and best-practice seating principles.

Participants will explore interpreting body segment angles, managing non-reducible postures, and optimising comfort, pressure care, and postural stability. Attendees will leave with practical tools and the confidence to deliver effective, person-centred wheelchair seating interventions

  • Apply critical body segment angles to wheelchair seating configuration.
  • Follow a step-by-step complex case study to enhance clinical reasoning.
  • Identify and use outcome measures to guide assessment and monitor progress.
  • Understand the benefits of modular seating in optimising postural alignment and functional outcomes.

SPECIAL GUEST PRESENTER:

The workshop will be led by Ed Milner of Medifab.

Ed is an Occupational Therapist with expertise in 24-hour posture care, particularly wheelchair seating and supported lying positioning. His clinical background spans Adult Disability, Mental Health, and Spinal Cord Injury, where he developed strong skills in postural assessment, seating prescription, and equipment selection.

Ed provides education, training, and clinical support to therapists and assistive technology professionals. He loves working with clients and their support networks to put in place meaningful and effective AT that improve postural care and quality of life.
