About this Event
Ready To Go Orienteering (RTGO) course trains and equips primary and post-primary school teachers, youth leaders, scout leaders, camp providers etc with the skills and ability to teach the fundamentals of the sport to beginners and young people, whilst providing them with the necessary resources to do this.
RTGO teaches you how to:
- Introduce pupils and young people to the basic skills of orienteering in a fun and exciting way.
- Identify where orienteering can be introduced to your school curriculum or group activities.
- Use games and activities that progress pupils and young people from classroom lessons to participating in simple orienteering competitions and events.
- Prepare your pupils or group to participate in schools orienteering events in public parks and other orienteering fixtures in your area.
Participants are provided with a resource pack including games cards, sample maps and controls, with further equipment available to purchase. Educational resources are also provided online, which can be downloaded and printed.
DEIS schools participating in the 'Ready to Go Orienteering' training can receive a customised orienteering map of their school grounds at a nominal cost. The map will be given to the school in electronic format.
