RARU E MARUAKAĪTĀ is making its return season! After 2 years of development, this unique piece of Kūki ‘Āirani theatre is making its way to Te Poutheatre for 3 shows only so get in quick!Raru e Maruakaītā follows a brother and sister, Raru and Maru, who are caught in a celestial struggle as the gods Vaerua and Tanga use them as pawns in a cosmic game. Manipulated into making fateful decisions, the siblings are driven toward destructive paths, culminating in the tragic death of one.
Written by Kūki ‘Āirani/ Māori (Mauke enua, Ngāpuhi e Tuwharetoa) and performer Poe Tiare Tararo, Raru e Maruakaītā brings together indigenous storytelling and innovative theatre-making. The production is directed by award- winning artist Tainui Tukiwaho, whose dynamic vision elevates the story’s universal themes while staying true to its cultural roots.
