Between Cordoba & Istanbul*
When she performs, her hands speak, a soul ignites. With an equally expressive voice, singer Raquel Kurpershoek-Jaldón creates an emotional charge that touches the heart.
Born in Amsterdam and raised in Andalusia, she unites two musical cultures where Mediterranean music—especially flamenco—takes center stage.
Kurpershoek embarks on a new project premiering during Old Roots New Routes. Inspired by musical journeys to Turkey, she explores “the musical and historical intersections between makam and flamenco, and how they manifest in form, rhythm, and emotion.”
Musicians: Raquel Kurpershoek (NL/ES) – vocals; Mauro Méndez (VE) double bass; Fran Rodriguez (ES/VE/NL) – piano; Danny Rombout (SR/NL) – percussion
*Line-up change: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Turkish musician Hasan Kiriş is unable to attend. The rest of the program remains unchanged."
