Death of Kenneth Coleman: Is Racism in Emergency Wards a Myth or Reality
Come join us at Busboys and Poets for a thought-provoking discussion on the topic of racism in hospital emergency wards. Is it a myth or a harsh reality?
On February 13 this year Kenneth Coleman would have turned 34. But the young first responder from the Capitol Hill area in South East died at the George Washington Univeristy Hospital in Foggy Bottom exactly two months before his 34th birthday on December 13, 2024.
The family says the medical staff was nasty, unprofessional and exhibited poor bedside manner and just downright difficult to deal with (lack of communication).
"Kenny insisted something is wrong, something is wrong I can't breathe, listen to me!! Listen to me!!! They all stood back and refused to help Kenny. We begged but they refused to help him and called the officers on us," the mother alleges.
Kenny reached the ER at 10 am and two hours later laughing and smiling man was dead in the ER.

Anyone who believes Black Lives Matter
According to Harvard Health Publishing, Harvard Medical School it is well-established that blacks and other minority groups in the U.S. experience more illness, worse outcomes, and premature death compared with whites. These health disparities were first "officially" noted back in the 1980s, and though a concerted effort by government agencies resulted in some improvement, the most recent report shows ongoing differences by race and ethnicity for all measures.
Let's dive deep into this important issue together. Hear from experts in the field, share your experiences, and be part of the conversation for change. Don't miss out on this eye-opening event!
