About this Event
These classes are for LGBTQ+ people who would like to practice yoga at reduced cost. Open to all abilities and experience. We will have around a 60 minute movement and meditation practice, followed by optional tea and chat. If you are practicing without a chair you should be able to get yourself up and down from the floor, otherwise we suggest using a chair - (this can be used for some or all of your practice). Please let us know in advance if you would like to practice on a chair.
Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts as the doors to the studio get locked at the start time and on Wednesday's there is another class on in the front room.
The sessions are pay what you can as we hope to make classes as accessible as possible if finances are a barrier for you. Please pay what you are able. If you are unable to pay you can still attend a session, just send us an email to let us know you will be joining. Your donation goes to support our community teachers and for hire of the space so we can continue running these classes.
We hope to create a yoga community for queer folks to enjoy group practice and connect with others. Our classes will follow a gentle flow / slow vinyasa style, with a focus on finding some time for you, away from judgement or comparisons. We invite you to take some time to notice how you feel and move in anyway that feels right for you, with options to connect with your breath. We encourage choice in your practice and there are never any expectations on how you practice that day.
These sessions will be lead by yoga instructors Lucy (she/her), Clemmie (she/her) Ruth (she/her) Sandie (she/her), Gillian (she/her) and Jordan (he/they).
Mats will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Blocks, blankets and eye pillows will be provided. Chairs can also be provided if needed for extra support - please just let us know. We suggest you wear comfy clothes you can freely move in (joggers, shorts, T-shirts etc).
We will be holding the sessions in the Līla Yoga Studio. The venue is situated on ground floor. There are all gender toilets available at the studio, without grabrails. Doorway to toilets are 26". When arriving at the building the front door should be open with a place to leave shoes at the door and a space to leave bags and coats at the back of the studio. If the door is locked please just knock and someone will welcome you in. Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time. Group size tends to be around 8-12 people. At the end of practice you will have the choice to stay for a complementary hot drink and chat, which we have in the studio. This lasts around 30 minutes but it's ok if you need to leave early.
The front doorway is usually 25.5 inches wide as only half is open but the other side can be opened to make it 36.5 inches if needed. There is a very small (under1inch) step to get in. On Wednesdays we are usually in the studio at the back of the building. To get there, there are two steps together: first 6inches, second 6.5inches. We will usually have some quiet music playing during the class. The studio at the front (which we'll be in on Fridays) has a large window at the front that looks onto the road - it comes half way down the wall with plants on the shelf so people can't see very much looking in. There may be sounds of traffic and people passing on the street. As the class is in the evening in winter it will be dark outside, there is gentle lighting in the studio. We will be in the back studio on Wednesdays and it has no windows and the lighting will be quite dimly lit. There are bus links outside the studio for buses 11, 15, 16, 23, 36, 45. There is some on street parking around the area.
Any questions at all, please get in touch. Hope to see you there!
