About this Event

About the event

These classes are for LGBTQ+ people who would like to practice yoga at reduced cost. Open to all abilities and experience. We will have around a 60 minute movement and meditation practice, finishing around 8pm, followed by optional tea and chat for the rest of the time. Group size will be up to 11 people.

If you are practicing without a chair you should be able to get yourself up and down from the floor, otherwise we suggest using a chair - this can be used for some or all of your practice. Please let us know in advance if you would like to practice on a chair.

There are tiered ticket options as we hope to make classes as financially accessible as possible. Please pay what you are able. Your donation goes to support our community teachers and for hire of the space so we can continue running these classes.

We hope to create a yoga community for queer folks to enjoy group practice and connect with others. Our classes will follow a gentle flow / slow vinyasa style, with a focus on finding some time for you, away from judgement or comparisons. We invite you to take some time to notice how you feel and move in anyway that feels right for you, with options to connect with your breath. We encourage choice in your practice and there are never any expectations on how you practice that day.

About the venue

We will be holding the sessions at Coven Studios (https://www.covenstudios.uk) on Ferry Road in Leith. There are bus links close to the studio for buses 7, 10, 12, 14, 21 and the tram stop Foot of Leith Walk is about a 12 minute walk away. There is some on street parking around the area. Please aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before class starts.

The venue is situated on ground floor. There are single stall all gender toilets available at the studio, without grabrails.

When arriving at the building the front door should be open with someone to welcome you and direct you to the space.

What to bring

Mats and yoga blocks will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. If there is any other equipment you'd like to use for your practice, such as a strap or blanket or bolster, please bring those with you too. We suggest you wear comfy clothes you can freely move in (joggers, shorts, T-shirts etc). The space may be chilly during the winter evenings, so a jumper or extra layer can be nice to have in case you need it.

Sensory information

We will usually have some quiet music playing during the class. The space where we'll be practising has no windows so will be fairly dark in the evening with dim, warm lighting. There may be sounds of traffic and people passing on the street.

Any questions at all, please get in touch. Hope to see you there!
