About this Event
Queer in a Wee Place explores identity, inequality and belonging in animated conversations about how queerness moves through place – and how place, in turn, shapes queer lives. This is a book that examines the past, present and future imaginings of queerness in Scotland, as a 'wee place'.
We could not be more thrilled to welcome the book's editor and several contributors to the bookshop for an Edinburgh launch of this vital new book!
With cases covering law, policies, cultural institutions, education, and everyday life, this collection offers an in-depth analysis of Scottish queer experience, showing how 'wee places' reflect and inflect global dynamics – revealing tensions between national pride, visibility and exclusion.
To celebrate the launch we're joined by Yvette Taylor and contributors Robyn O'Donnell , Jj Fadaka, Andrés N. Ordorica, and Sharon Cowan, as well as Madeleine Leisk who illustrated the book.
This event will be followed by a drinks reception and chance to linger and chat to the writers behind the book. The event itself will be masked (as with all indoor lighthouse events) but the social reception after will not require masks so we can share refreshments!
