Queer Art Club presents Draw A Drag Queen with Sam Braithwaite
In this edition of Queer Art Club we will be learning how to figure draw with a drag performer!
You'll learn the basics of costumed figure drawing in this beginner-friendly workshop. Together, we’ll break down the seven types of fabric folds and learning how to spot them on a clothed model and understand how the body’s form shapes the drapery. Connect with your community, build your skills, and draw alongside a fabulous drag model: Seyoncé Knows!
Sketchbooks and pencils will be available for all participants. Guests who wish to use additional materials are welcome to bring their own supplies; however, we kindly ask that these be limited to dry media or a small watercolor set.
What to expect:
- Sketch with pencil and paper (or bring your favourite materials!)
- Learn the basics of drawing the figure and how fabric moves and flows
- Try out quick, simplified figure sketches using handy shorthand techniques
- Spot tension points and discover the magic of the seven fabric folds
- Create a series of lively, timed drawings of a drag performer (Seyoncé Knows!)
- You will get to take home your custom made cyanotype prints!
Each participant will leave with their sketchbooks and a solid knowledge of how fabric interacts on the human figure!
Accessibility: The workshop will be on the second floor of George Chuvalo Neighbourhood Centre. The centre is fully accessible. All entrances and restrooms are wheelchair accessible, and there is an elevator available to access the second floor.
