About this Event
Heart-Centered Meditation for Queer and Trans Community In times of deep personal and collective grief, practicing heart-centered meditation in queer and trans spiritual community can support our own well-being, help us trust our hearts, cultivate compassion for others, and fortify our efforts towards collective liberation. In this workshop, an all-trans facilitation team will introduce the Buddhist divine qualities of the heart, lead guided meditation, and facilitate reflection and discussion on these powerful practices. We hope to create a soft, quiet, and gentle space for spiritual practice together.
This is a series of gatherings – please join us for one, some, or all. :)
October 21st: Loving-Kindness (mettā)
November 18th: Compassion (karuṇā)
December 16th: Empathetic Joy (muditā)
January 2025 TBD: Equanimity (upekkhā)
The four divine qualities of the heart – Loving-Kindness, Compassion, Empathetic Joy, and Equanimity – have been taught for millenia across many schools of Buddhism. These practices support us in cultivating self-compassion and self-acceptance, building stronger and kinder relationships, cultivating greater compassion for others, tuning into diverse experiences of joy, and resting in non-discrimination and interconnectedness. During these times of drastic change and upheaval, these heart qualities can offer us a place to ground ourselves in visions of love and liberation for all beings, so we can find moments to meaningfully reach beyond overwhelm and apathy.
This workshop series is open to people of all experience levels. No meditation experience is necessary.
ATTENTION: KN95 or N95 are required when attending. Cloth masks and surgical masks are not permitted. We mask as an act of community care & to make this space accessible to and inclusive of sangha members who are disabled, chronically ill, and/or immunocompromised.
