2023 Domaine Galevan Aureus Vin Orange $25.94
Domane Galevan is currently run by Coralis, the first woman to take over in the 9 generations of the winery. It is located in the Courthézon commune and the vines are an average of 65 years old. It is 100% organic and they produce small quantities of high quality wine. This is a unique wine made from 100% clairette, one of the main white grapes of the Southern Rhône, with skin contact.
2020 Domaine Maby La Fermade Lirac $23.94
For over a century and 3 generations, the Maby family has been crafting quality wine from the Southern Rhône. This is coming from Lirac, a region on the right bank of the Rhone River right across from the famed Châteauneuf-du-pape. This is a classic GSM blend, with 45% grenache, 35% syrah and 20% mourvèdre, from the sandy soils of Lirac. Despite the sand, which is usually resistant to phylloxera, Lirac is believed to be the gateway to phylloxera in France in 1863.
2018 Domaine de Beaurenard Rasteau Argiles Bleues $38.94
Rasteau is a region in the Southern Rhône permitted to produce red and sweet wine from primarily grenache. Domaine de Beurenard has been owned by the Coulon family for eight generations and is organic and biodynamic. They started producing wine from Rasteau in 1980. "Les Argiles Bleues" is wine they produce with grapes picked from blue clay soil, which gives denser tannin. Therefore, they age it in small oak for 12 months to smooth the tannins and add to the fineness of the wine. This is 80% grenache and 20% mourvedre co-fermented and de-stemmed.
2022 Domaine le Sang des Cailloux Floureto Vacqueyras $39.94
Domaine le Sang des Cailloux, or the blood of the stones, produced its first vintage in 1990, the same year that Vacqueyras was granted AOC status. It was previously part of the larger and more general Côte-du-Rhone-Villages appellation and was second, behind Gigondas, to be promoted. It is planted on the Plateau des Garrigues, where an incredible mix of red clay, limestone, and galets, the famed stony soil of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, create wine with intense minerality. The blend is 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre & Cinsault.
2021 Domaine Les Pallières Gigondas Racines $49.94
Gigondas was elevated from Côte-du-Rhone-Village to its own AOC in 1971. Domaine Les Pallières has a really unique story. It was owned by the Roux family since the 15th century but in 1998, they didn't have any successors to pass it down to. They met with Daniel Brunier of Viex Télégraphe and Kermit Lynch and a partnership was born. The winery was revived and went through a resurrection. Brunier and Lynch dediced to separate the cuvee into more specific lieux-dits to better celebrate the unique terroirs instead of blending them into one bottling. This is the "Racines" lieux-dit, produced from the vineyards surrounding the winery which are the oldest. The grapes are sourced from red clay soil and the blend is 80% grenache, 15% syrah and cinsault co-planted, and 5% clairette.
2020 Domaine Olivier Hillaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Terrasses $76.94
Châteauneuf-du-Pape was the first AOC of France in 1936. It is a historic region, and unique in that there are 13 approved varieties for the appellation (technically 18 if you include blanc, gris and noir versions). Many of the iconic estates blend some or all, in the case of Château Beaucastel, of the approved grapes. On the contrary, some produce monovarietal wines from grenache, including the famous Château Rayas. Domaine Olivier Hillaire is one of the few to make a Châteauneuf-du-Pape from 100% old vine grenache from the rocky soil composed of galets, or pudding stones.
