Publicity for Independent Musicians: 2026 Workshop Series
How do you effectively promote your work as an independent musician?
This workshop explores practical strategies for building visibility around your projects, including press releases, media outreach, and promotional positioning. Led by Lisa Mezzacappa, bandleader and Executive Director at The Jazzschool, this session offers insight into communicating artistic work clearly, identifying publicity opportunities, and developing materials that support performances, recordings, and other creative endeavors.
Bassist, educator, composer, bandleader, and arts administrator Lisa Mezzacappa has been active in the Bay Area music community for more than 20 years. She has worked in communications, marketing, and programming with many nonprofit arts organizations in the region, including Cal Performances, Oakland Ballet, Kronos Performing Arts, and Stanford Live. Most recently, she has been supporting Bay Area jazz artists through her Berkeley-based micro-label, Queen Bee Records, and was hired as Executive Director at the Jazzschool in Berkeley last December.
This workshop will be facilitated by InterMusic SF. Each spring, InterMusic hosts free professional development workshops on a broad range of topics. Workshops are specifically designed for professional musicians + facilitated by Bay Area experts. This February–June, join us for a curated series of workshops that will help you sustain your career as an artist or arts professional.
